Fayetteville Goes Local is founded and directed by Patricia Mikkelson and her husband Robert.
We are in the process of creating a team of people who see the possibility of living out their vision in this plan, and who have the ability and time to promote and create the following projects:
ECHO Think Tank: ECHO stands for Economic Challenges Holding Opportunities
Using change-making methods that help people from diverse backgrounds find common ground, such as Open Space Technology, we will come together on line, in person, and on conference calls to identify all the problems and find the solutions that we can suggest and together implement. Creating an plan for emergency preparedness will be one of the priority items to brainstorm. Resource: www.openspaceworld. For an overview of open space technology click here
NWA Time Banks: Time Banks offers a simple way for people to barter time and material goods while at the same time building community and social capital. Resource: www.timebanks.org
NWA Livable Future Alliance: Based on the successful Portland Oregon organization, Coalition for a Livable Future, individuals, community organizations, businesses and government agencies can find common ground to work on issues including affordable housing, livable wages, ecology, peace, justice, affordable health care, and food security.
Self Reliance Enterprises: Employment agency and referral service that will match workers with people who want to create urban homesteads and be prepared for long term and short-term emergencies. This article gives some ideas on how we can encourage jobs related to self-reliance
Livable Neighborhoods Project: Training and support, and eventually funding, for neighborhood organizers to empower residents to create thriving, self-reliant neighborhoods based on LIVABLE NEIGHBORHOODS PROGRAM handbook
Community Weaver Network: Community Organizers will support each other in being effective servant leaders based on universal principles and building a sense of community in neighborhoods, businesses, non-profits and faith-centered groups. We will pattern this after the program in Reno, Nevada
Buy Local Now! Using cutting edge networking methods, referral systems, success teams, consumer education and mentoring, local businesses will have a chance to thrive. An on line and hard copy directory and resource guide will make it easy for people to shop locally owned businesses as well as connect with others in the Fayetteville Goes Local Network. We will interface with BALLE: Business Alliance of Local Living Economies.
Life Long Learning Unlimited: Goal: A learning center in every neighborhood and a mentor for everyone who wants one. Matching up people with mentors, coaches, success teams and internships; and support for homeschoolers are some of the services offered by this group. Here is an example.
Community Gathering Cooperative: By coming together in a spirit of collaboration, fun, learning, networking, and helping each other meet needs, a strong fabric of community can be built. Faith based groups such as churches will especially be encouraged to sponsor these gatherings so that there can be a place for people to meet at virtually any time of the day or night within walking distance of any one. These gatherings will also be a foundation of emergency preparedness because people will be used to gathering in certain spaces which can be used in times of great need. Super Networking meetings, Conversation Cafes, Farmers Market Networking Centers, and Time Banks will all be a part of this endeavor. People can experience a sense of extended family and develop empowering friendships. Non Violent Communication will be one of the main skills that are shared so that conflict prevention and resolution can be a part of the community culture. Support for effective parenting, and families will also be supplied
Artists Go Local Collaborative: Artists come together to support each other in doing what they love and finding ways to use their artistic abilities to integrate with and support the Goes Local movement. Here’s an example of one Art Alliance that supports local art as a way of strengthening the local economy
